1. nth Venture has a foundation built on shared goals and aligned incentives.

We didn’t start out as a venture studio – it was something we discovered while trying to create a place where it would be great to work and employees could all get a piece of the pie, all the way from the most senior early hires to the staff accountant, analyst or bookkeeper.

You could say the venture studio model found us, but either way, we’re glad we found each other.

2. nth Venture builds businesses from scratch.

The nth Venture studio operates like many other venture studios in practice, but we have several distinguishing features that set us apart.

Let’s start with what’s similar: we build businesses from scratch, the quintessential role of any venture studio. We provide hands-on support, mentorship, education and early capital to get our studio ventures running and positioned for success.

3. nth Venture has ownership at its heart.

A lot of what defines nth Venture is how we’re different. In everything we do at nth Venture, we are guided by our purpose -

That purpose takes many different shapes in our organization and we’ll break it down for you next.

4. nth Venture has aligned incentives.

We fundamentally believe that in order to build something great, everyone needs to be on the same page and that starts with aligned incentives.

No one succeeds unless everyone succeeds.

It’s a model that works exceptionally well in our venture studio, because it means everyone is incentivized to work together, support one another and draw from each other’s strengths to create a powerful business-building machine.

We apply aligned incentives to both equity and compensation–the greater the pie grows, the greater the compensation. No infighting over pay increases, bonuses or promotions. A bigger pie means more to go around – everyone’s slice gets bigger.

5. nth Venture believes in autonomy.

We’re all adults here.

Both in terms of how we lead and the units we build, our teams have autonomy to decide how they work and how they make decisions.

We give the guidance and support for our leaders to make smart decisions, but they are the captains of their ships. Much like a captain would steer away from danger, our alignment sets the stage for autonomy as making the best choice for the team is foundational.

6. nth Venture is a place for everyone.

Ownership sets the foundation for good business.

Whatever the role, there’s a place for everyone in our structure and we take great pride in being able to offer all employees the chance for meaningful ownership in their companies–whether at the nth Venture studio itself or our business units. Nothing gets people excited about building a business more than being able to reap the rewards of their hard work. That’s front and center here.

7. nth Venture believes in running lean.

Our studio leadership team is intentionally small and agile, with subject matter experts across operations, HR, IT, marketing, and communications. We apply the same approach to capital utilization, expending far less cash than most studios thanks to both our profit-sharing compensation structure and our ability to source and implement existing technology in innovative ways.
